SUPERMOTARD

Okay, granted I haven't had a chance to truly hit the motard track on a real machine. But we rigged my dirtbike to be similar, which looked like a pathetically motarded attempt  It actually started out as an attempt to drag a knee and find my balance point on New Year's Day.  I threw on my motorcycle leathers and I gave it a go. For two days solid, I just kept working at it on sub-par equipment, losing the front end over and over again until I felt defeated. But I kept going. I finally got on my knee and tripodded for a while but I really need the correct set up. I practiced rear slides and saves and flicks and it is a lot of fun!  I must have wrecked about 20 times because of the lack of a true contact patch. We tried reducing pressures, adding pressure, we even adjusted the grips inwards so I could hang off more. So several bruises and broken levers later, I was hooked.  I got better at turning with the leg out as I do in dirt, however the contact patch was never sufficient and I had to tripod more than I should. But this taught me how to save myself from falling a lot.

Now I want to get on a real machine - a small bike at first so I don't kill myself - so badly! So I will be working on trying this out very soon.  I can't wait to have the chance to truly try it with some stickier, proper tires.  I really feel it will help me on the roadracing track due to the rear brake usage, the slides.  My friend, KC, super motards on a DR and is trying to get me into it.  So stay tuned for my efforts in the future...
